MGEX 1/100 Strike Freedom Gundam

The MGEX Strike Freedom Gundam is the second kit in Bandai's MGEX line, a high-end branch of the Master Grade format where each release is built around a specific theme. For the Strike Freedom, that theme is metal expression, and it's applied thoroughly. Six distinct finishing techniques are used across the internal frame: three types of special processing, two types of metallic moulding, and etched seals. The result is a frame that genuinely reads as metallic rather than painted, which is something standard injection moulding struggles to pull off convincingly.

The internal frame also carries what Bandai describe as the largest frame-linked movable gimmick in MG history. The armour-linked movement system, which has appeared in parts on previous MG and RG kits, is applied across many more joints here, so the frame and armour panels work together as the kit moves rather than independently. The hip joint uses a two-step drawer-then-pivot mechanism that allows both legs to overlap naturally in flying poses - a small detail that makes a real difference when posing the kit in the air. Red clear parts are used in the armour gaps to draw attention to the frame beneath, and the overall part structure is deliberately designed to show it off.

Weapons are well covered, with a Long Range Beam Rifle, Syphias 3-Rail Cannon, and Speer Rocketa Beam Saber among the armaments, each with their own gimmicks. Figures of Kira Yamato and Lacus Klein are included, along with an Action Base, PET sheet beam shield effects, and a papercraft runner stand for keeping track of parts during the build.
